Chelford Cricket Club

The Roundabouts

Fenn & Shallcross lead 1st XI to comfortable win against Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge

Chelford faced Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge and after a comprehensive victory earlier in the season were in confident mood. Having lost the toss C.H.L. asked Chelford to bat. Although the wickets have been seamer friendly all year the runs have always come at a decent rate and today was no exception.  Chris Fenn has been out of sorts for the last couple of games but today came out firing on all cylinders. Hash Vora fell in the 3rd over with the score on 32, but Fenn showed no mercy to the C.H.L bowling pouncing on anything remotely loose passing 50 in the 8th over from only 31 balls.

Batting now with Nittin Srivastava the score continued at a blisterring pace the 100 coming up in the 10th over. Fenn fell shortly after for a magnificent 75 from just 42 balls including 12 fours and 4 sixes. Srivastava soon followed for 30 and it was up to Imran Patel 22 and Zaheer Khan 21 to steady the ship . However once they had been dismissed Chelfords innings fizzled out finishing on 169 a/o.  M.Bishop bowled straight through taking 5-78 ably assisted by P.Gidley 4-36, M.Spreadborough took the brunt of Fenns destructive innings going for 52 from his 4 overs.

Chelfords bowling attack was enhanced with a fit again Mark Shallcross and he bowled a majestic spell ripping out the first 5 C.H.L batsmen . Also returning was Des Fenn back from a tour of Europe, although Fenn ended up wicketless he gave good support to Shallcross who finished with figures of 5-23 from 14 overs. On introduction to the attack Zaheer Khan wasted no time taking a wicket first ball, Nittin Srivastava joined Khan and C.H.L were soon 8 wickets down, then came the rain. Chelford is however one of the best draining grounds in Cheshire and after a heavy fall of rain it wasn’t long before they were back on the field. Srivastava picked up his second wicket upon resumption of play and Khan wrapped things up soon after, Srivastava 2-7 and Khan another solid display 3-19 dimissing C.H.L. for 107.

Chelfords fielding was again tidy Andrew Duffy taking a sharpe catch at cover to start things off and Des Fenn hobbling on one leg another to finsh the match. S.Oliver also did a tidy job behind the stumps taking a smart catch off Khan.  Another  win and 25 points well done men keep at it there’s still a long way to go. Next week away to Wirral.
